A Beginner’s Guide To Dabbing Cannabis Concentrates

February 26, 2021

According to research, the global cannabis industry will be worth over USD 16490 million by the year 2025. More and more people are waking up to the powerful benefits of cannabis on our mental and physical health.

If you haven't gotten started on using cannabis yet, it can feel overwhelming to know where to start, as there are multiple forms and types of cannabis concentrates to choose from such as edibles, tinctures, and more.

The type of cannabis you choose depends on what you are using it for in the first place, this could be anything from anxiety to insomnia or chronic pain.

So the problem is, what are the benefits of the different types of cannabis concentrates? How can you use cannabis concentrates to their full potential?

We created this article to help you solve those questions and more, so keep on reading to learn everything you need to know about dabbing cannabis concentrates, so you can feel better and start living your life pain-free again!

What Are Cannabis Concentrates?

Just as the name suggests, cannabis concentrates are concentrated forms of Cannabidiol (CBD) and Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which are sourced from the cannabis flower. This form of cannabis is much more potent as it also contains other active compounds called terpenes and cannabinoids.

Cannabis concentrates come from the process of separating the resin from the flower, which allows up to 90% more potency than smoking the dried flowers because of the mixture of active compounds in the resin. This is because of trichomes, which are little growths located on the flower, which create the resin.

The more trichomes that are attached to the flower, the more terpenes and cannabinoids it will add to the resin, therefore, making it more potent.

You can get cannabis concentrates in the form of edibles, tinctures, and cannabis oil, yet the most potent form comes from vaporizers and dab rigs.

What is Dabbing?

Dabbing is the process of inhaling the cannabis concentrates by heating them with a device such as a dab rig or vaporizer pen. While the effects of smoking regular cannabis last only 30 minutes to an hour, the effects of dabbing the concentrates can last anywhere up to three hours!

This is why dabbing has become extremely popular in the last decade and has evolved faster than any other type of cannabis in the industry. If you have a good-quality vape pen, you are destined to enjoy the effects and receive the benefits of dabbing much more than if you were to smoke a joint.

How Is Dabbing Done?

If you have ever smoked a bong before, the process of dabbing will be very similar to you. By following this guide, you will receive the most cannabis oil benefits.

  1. First, you drop the concentration into the dab bowl (also known as a banger)
  2. Use a small hand-held torch (not a lighter) to heat up the bowl/banger for up to 30 seconds
  3. Let it cool for the equal time you heated it for
  4. Move the concentrate into the center of the banger
  5. Once the concentrate melts, you can inhale the vapor

Some important tips to keep in mind is that you want to use high heat to melt the concentrate, which is why you do not want to use a conventional lighter, rather using a small torch instead.

You also do not want to heat the cannabis concentrate too much, or else you lose out on the potency and benefits. If you are unsure if you want to deal with this process, just invest in an electronic dabbing device instead. This way, you can avoid needing to use a blow torch, nor do you have to heat up and move the dab around.

The vape pen industry is worth over $61 billion for this reason because they are safer, more convenient, and quicker to use than conventional dabbing methods.

Is Dabbing Safe?

When you hear about the process of dabbing, it may sound like the process of heating hard drugs, but this is far from the truth. We are speaking about cannabis here, so the element of danger is virtually non-existent.

Also, the process of dabbing is relatively safe, however, if you are not using a vape pen, you do have to use a blow torch which can add an element of danger.

Vape pens are specifically designed to eliminate the risks involved with dabbing and using a torch, as they heat up to the exact temperature you need.

Understanding the Different Types of Dabs

Now that you know the process of dabbing, you need to select which type of dab you want, there are multiple different types and textures of dabs to choose from, yet they all provide a similar result.

  • Wax dabbing has a smooth and buttery-like texture, which makes it easier to move it into the banger
  • Oil dabbing is like a sticky liquid, which can make it harder to transport if not using a vape pen
  • Shatter dabbing is both creamy and brittle, which makes it delicate to use if not using a vape pen, yet the potency lasts the longest out of all types of dabbing
  • Budder dabbing has a soft and gooey-like consistency which makes it a popular choice for dabber users
  • Honeycomb dabbing is a bit more fragile and can be difficult if not using a vape pen

We suggest that you play with different types of dabbing to ensure you find the type that works best for you. Many people prefer to mix up their dabs so they can get the full experience of cannabis concentrates.
